Growth performance of Israeli cross-bred goats raised at Livestock Farm, IAAS, Rampur, Chitwan.

Keywords: Body weight, weaning weight, sex of birth, type of birth, season of birth

An experiment was conducted at livestock farm IAAS Rampur during the year 2001/02 to study about the growth performance of Israeli crossbred goat. Accordingly body growth related parameters at birth, and at weaning were compared with respect to the type of birth (single versus multiple); sex of birth (male versus female), and season of birth (winter versus summer). Basically, parameters such as birth weight, body length, heart girth, and wither height were measured and their differences compared. The results showed a significantly different (p<0.05) birth weight with respect to the important parameters for growth such as type, sex and season of the birth. Similarly, body length, heart girth and wither height measured were also significantly different (p<0.05) with respect to those parameters measured. On the other hand weaning weight also differed significantly (P<0.05) for those parameters indicating variation in performance of Israeli cross bred goat with respect to the important determinants for growth.
