Color characteristics in Nepalese rice landrace population.
Amgain, R. B., L. P. Subedi, K. R. Dahal and R. C. Sharma. 2007. IAAS Research Advances Vol. 1. Institute of Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Rampur, Chitwan, Nepal. pp. 73-76.
Keywords: Rice, landrace, color characteristics
Vast range of the intra-and inter-population diversities of rice landraces with
respect to their particular character is most important in the Nepalese context.
Therefore, five rice landraces from eastern and middle mid-hill of Nepal were used to study the color
characteristics during 2003-2004. Two populations obtained from purified seed
were grown at Zyadul Besi during rice growing season 2003 and their
morphological characteristics were studied. Off-type grain characteristic was
closely related with off-type basal leaf sheath coloration. Grain
characteristics were found effective for removal of off-type plants from the
field population.
