Effects of various substrates and ingredients on  yield  of  oyster mushroom (Pleurotus sajor-caju).

Keywords: Oyster mushroom, Pleurotus sajor-caju, substrates, yield

An experiment was conducted at IAAS Rampur, with an objective of finding appropriate substrate and ingredients composition for oyster mushroom (Pleurotus sajor-caju) cultivation in Chitwan. Altogether seventeen treatments of various ratios of base materials (rice and wheat straw) and ingredients (rice polish and sawdust) were tested. Among them, 5% rice polish + 95% rice straw performed the best (1.074 kg from one kg dry medium) followed by 10% rice polish + 90% rice straw (1.064 kg) and 5% sawdust + 95% rice straw (1.032 kg). The least yield was obtained from T6 (15% rice polish + 85% wheat straw (0.305 kg). It was also seriously affected by Trichoderma, a green mould competitor.
